Sunday saw the squirrels take on Beckenham Merlins. After being reminded by the opposition’s captain at the toss how the squirrels threw away the game the previous year, the lads were keen to make amends. After winning the toss, the skipper elected to bat first.
Tom (34) and Neil (12) opened up, putting on 35 for the first wicket, running well between the wickets during their stand. Tom’s innings suggested he’s not far away from his first 50 for the club.
Dave Paine (28) then came to the crease and after a slow start, hit some nice boundaries to increase the run rate.
Charles (21), the skip (30) and Min (22*) then chipped in with some lusty blows at the end. Min also decided to run the skip into the ground, but in doing so, saw the squirrels post a par 175-5.
Himanshu (0-26) and George (3-6) then opened up the bowling for the squirrels, both bowling with great accuracy and causing the oppo’s batsman plenty of problems. George in particular, bowled tight lines and to only go for 6 on such a flat deck shows what an excellent performance it was.
The accurate and tight bowling continued with Charles (0-21), Harry S (1-27), Min (0-33) and Oscar (0-15) all maintaining the low run rate.
The squirrels ground fielding was superb and in particular Dave flew around the boundary like a whippet and took a superb catch in the deep to help clinch the game.
Beckenham Merlins finished on 130-4 as Lamorbey claimed their 8th win of the season with another strong performance.
