Sunday saw the squirrels take on Bexley Park in the first game of the season. After the skipper called wrong at the toss, Bexley Park batted first
Himanshu and Harry Ford opened the bowling for Lamorbey. Himanshu (3-6) got an early wicket and bowled a superb line on length on a slow track.
Bexley Park then got themselves in and punished anything short or over-pitched. Harry Sampson (1-25) bowled well at the death and debutant Vishal (1-23) bowled with great control and on another day could have picked up 2 or 3 more wickets.
In truth, Jake, Min, Harry and our other debutant Brian were unlucky to not pick up wickets as Bexley Park racked up 183 in their 35 overs. Special mention to Himanshu who came back in the last over to get 2 wickets from 2 balls and is another strong addition to the squirrels team.
After a very decent tea, Lamorbey went out to bat but got off to a slow start, with Lloyd, Tom and Alfie all falling cheaply. Jake (51) and Hobbsy (21) put on a decent partnership in the middle, but once they fell, the tail crumbled and the squirrels were all out for a tame 119.
In truth, we were well below par in the field, with the ball and with the bat and it showed that we had a long winter, but the only way is up squirrels and a big performance is just round the corner.
Special thanks to Charles for umpiring.
