Sunday saw the squirrels make the trip to Hildenborough
With a few players running late, the skipper luckily won the toss and chose to bat first which was ideal given 3-4 players were still on the motorway
Charles (14) and Neil (17) got us off to a solid start before both losing their furniture. It was then down to Jake to anchor the innings on a difficult deck for batting
Jake punished anything short hitting 6 sixes and 9 fours in a quite simply superb knock of 104, which was probably worth more given the unpredictability of the pitch.
Jake was supported by Hobbsy (7), Howesy (13), Lloyd (4) and Sen (1*) as the squirrels made an above par 222-6
After a no show from last year’s skipper, the team managed to persuade spectator/ photographer Daisy to play, something which we are all very grateful for.
Charles (2-26) and Sen (0-23) opened up the bowling and complimented each other well. Sen bowled with good pace and discipline and we all know a hatful of wickets isn’t far away for him.
Charles bowled with great flight too and shocked everyone when he moved like a gazelle to take a fantastic caught and bowled.
It was then set up for Kev (2-13), Harry S (1-17) and Oscar (1-15) to help make the total look almost impossible to achieve. All three made use of a tired pitch and deserved their tidy figures.
We also saw a great run out from Oscar who moved in swiftly from point and threw in a flat, fast throw to Howesy who was grateful and did the rest of the work leaving their number 6 stranded.
Daisy also bowled very well for a player who had no idea at the start of the day that she would be playing. We also saw spells from Lloyd and Neil who both showed they can do a job with the ball in the future if needed.
LPCC won by 64 runs
Four standout moments from the day for me:
1. Seeing Jake hit a sublime century;
2. Sharing the field once more with my niece and nephew (thanks again Daisy for helping us out);
3. Lloyd’s two footed tackle on the ball when fielding at cover;
4. Oscar giving chase to fine leg, throwing the ball in flat and somehow managing to directly hit Charles in the midrift area.
Player of the match - Jake
Fine of the day - Oscar and Charles
