Sunday saw the squirrels travel to Hilly Fields as took on Hobgoblin Nomads. After a crucial toss win, the skipper chose to bat first in the searing heat, on what looked like an interesting park track.
Lloyd (9) and Tom (18) got the squirrels off to a slow start with the pitch sometimes keeping low and sometimes popping from a good length.
After both went to similar shots, Min (35) and the skipper (118*) had a quick chat in the middle and decided to try and smash every delivery, given the toughness of the deck, putting on over 70 very quickly, running as little as possible (well the skipper anyway).
The skipper had a day out and took advantage of some friendly fielding from the oppo and at one point tried hitting the ball into Professor Green’s front garden (local knowledge from Lloyd who knew a lot about Professor Green it seemed)
George (17) also contributed on debut, starting his squirrels career in glorious fashion, smacking his first ball back over the bowlers head into the hill for six with Min’s beautiful bat.
After a very long tea, the squirrels took to the field. Our other debutant Neil (3-25) bowled superbly, bowing 2 or 3 unplayable deliveries in a fine spell of bowling.
Himanshu (2-13) also bowled with discipline. It was then down to Harry S (4-38) and George (1-13) to mop up the tail as the squirrels probably bowled and fielded the best they have all season.
Another big mention to Howesy after keeping like a genius on a difficult track, taking three exceptional catches and a stumping. Once again, although I’m biased, I maintain Howesy is the best keeper outside Kent league cricket.
Player of the match - The skip
Fine of the day - Harry S
