Sunday saw the squirrels travel to Beckenham to take on the Merlins. After an early weather update from Andy that the rain was that horrid, hard, fine stuff, we still made our way to be pleasantly surprised that the game was still on.
After a void first toss, Hobbsy lost the second toss and lamorbey park were asked to field first. A slightly loose first few opening overs saw Beckenham race to 30 and it looked like it was going to be a long day.
Sen (1-19) and Harry (1-22) then found their rhythm and started causing the batsman plenty of problems. Howesy took a smart catch standing up to Harry that Jack Russell would have been proud of.
Andy Martin (1-30) then bowled a mixture of raw pace and spin, bowling well in tandem with a focused Kev (1-35) who got the ball in nice places and deserved a couple more wickets.
Charles (2-21) and Harry Sampson (0-22) then bowled well at the death with Beckenham setting the squirrels 159 for victory.
A watchful Lloyd (4 from 30 balls) and a confident looking Alfie got us off to a solid start. Woodsy (39) then crashed the ball to all parts before surprisingly getting bowled to a straight one. A fluent Charles (11 from 22) kept the run chase alive.
The skipper (30) and Howesy (26) then made the score look very gettable before both getting bowled seeking a boundary.
For the third game in a row, we had a final over decider with all results possible and we managed a very good tie in what was a very enjoyable game had by all, with Harry Sampson (10*) and Sen (2*) doing well to see the ball at the end given how dark it got in the latter overs.
Man of the match - Woodsy
Fine of the day (Harry Sampson)
