Sunday saw the squirrels travel to OD Cuaco for their second game of the season.
After the mandatory toss loss, the squirrels bowled first on a slow looking deck. It was a superb start from Andy “OD Cuaco” Hall (0-14) and Himanshu (2-19) who bowled with great accuracy and the oppo were lucky not to be 4 or 5 down after 10 overs.
The middle overs saw something LPCC aren’t used to and that was some amazing pieces of fielding. Firstly, we saw lloyd take a catch at mid on and what followed after, no one predicted. After taking the catch cleanly, Lloydy decided to take a tumble to the ground and fall, reminiscent of when Paulo Di Canio pushed the referee in the 90’s.
Jake then upped the fielding even more, swooping in like a gazelle and throwing down the stumps with the batsman stunned at what they just saw and being left stranded, well out of their crease. It was then Himanshu’s turn to get in on the act on a run out and again hit the stumps when a quick single was called with his bullet arm.
OD Cuaco made a decent 143 from their 40 on a tricky deck. Harry S bowled superbly (2-21) with his new action really paying dividends on the pitch. Min (1-20), Jake (1-28) and Charles (1-14) also bowled well. It was nice to see Wiseo give the oppo a target with some friendly bowling as well. He’s definitely gone soft in his old age which is nice to see.
Before I move onto the chase, I’d like to mention Charles’s valiant effort in the slips. Himanshu bowled the perfect away swinger to induce an edge and the ball flew to Charles in the slips. As the boys went up, we heard a huge groan from Charles, as if he had been hit by a sniper from long distance. This was followed by an apology from Charles as the ball hit the ground who simply stated “I just didn’t see it and before I knew it, the ball hit me in the stomach”
Lloyd (4) and Wiseo (35-3) then went out to bat and it was obvious from the start that it was tricky pitch to bat on and 143 was going to difficult to achieve. Tom (5) looked good before getting a jaffa and Jake (19) looked his usual fluent self before nicking off.
Unfortunately after that, we struggled to get near the total, falling 19 runs short, with no one providing any support to Min (8*) who looked solid and capable of seeing us home if someone stuck around with him.
All in all, it was a great day had by all and fines were probably the funniest they have ever been. Thanks to Woodsy for umpiring the first stint and well done to Howesy for keeping so well on a tricky pitch.
Player of the match - Harry Sampson
Fine of the day - Charles
