unday saw the squirrels take on Kent Ramblas at Ex Blues ground. After two morning drop outs, the squirrels scrambled around for players and Woodsy and Ravi stepped up to help us out.
After an agreed toss by the vice captain Howesy, the squirrels batted first. After Woodsy (38) and Min (0) opened up and with woodsy getting dropped off the first ball of the game, it looked like it was going to be a hard deck to score on.
After woodsy hit a few nice blows, Neil A (40) and the skipper (51) came to the crease and complimented each other well, mixing lusty blows with singles to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
After being 120-2, the squirrels had a mid order collapse with wickets tumbling. We needed a couple of players to stand up and be counted and that is exactly what happened.
Oscar (19*) playing his first game of the season, was joined by Morgs (1*) who put on an unbroken stand of over 20 for the last wicket. Morgs looked like he could bat for another 50 overs without being troubled and without troubling the scorers either, whilst Oscar arguably hit the shot of the season, crashing a cover drive on the up, for a one bounce four. The squirrels finished on an above par 176-9.
Lamorbey then took to the field and Neil E (1-22) and debutant Ravi (1-18) bowled arguably the tightest opening spell for the squirrels in years, using the pitch to their advantage to get the squirrels off to a superb start.
The scene and was then set for Min to bamboozle the middle order with his spin and take his best figures for the club with an impressive 4-15 off his 7 overs. It would of been a fiver for, if his car buddies would of clung on to two fairly tough chances off his last over that he didn’t want to bowl.
Harry S (3-26) also chipped in with wickets and the ever quiet woodsy got the final wicket which gave his number one fan Lloyd a huge smile to end the day.
Morgs (0-10) and Oscar (0-14) also bowled well and could of had a wicket each on another day.
The squirrels won by 66 runs on what turned out to be a good day of cricket against a pleasant team to play against.
Thanks to Ravi, Morgs, Neil E and Woodsy for helping us out. The question Morgs left the ground asking everyone was “can anyone get me out on a Sunday?” It’s a question that is hard to answer and I for one would like to see the boy back on the pitch again and up the order, to see if he can keep up the red inkers.
Player of the match - Min
