Sunday saw the squirrels take on Tonbridge for the second time this season. The skipper won the toss and elected to bat first.
Lloyd (11) and Chris Mac (15) got the squirrels off to a solid start, with woodsy (21) also looking good again but not kicking on.
The stage was set for debutant Richard Skye though, who came to the crease and showed intent from ball one, punishing anything short or over pitched and looked class for his 62. He was well supported by the skip (16), Kyle (42*), Kev (4) and Oscar (9*)
Kyle in particular provided a flurry of boundaries at the back end of the innings and on two occasions decided he didn’t even need to use both hands when batting, hitting two superb, one handed fours. Kev also ran superbly at the end and Oscar probably hit the shot of the day with a glorious on drive for four. The squirrels set a decent score of 221-8.
The Tonbridge openers got off to a flier but in truth on another day, both Sen (1-33) and Nitish (0-47) deserved an early breakthrough and were a little unlucky.
It was down to Richard (2-16) to get the breakthrough though, who bowled very well for an occasional left arm seam bowler, mixing his length and pace brilliantly. Oscar (2-43) bowled well too and even had the umpire Andy Martin celebrating one of his wickets, which had the batter caught behind to a good catch from Kev who was guesting behind the stumps.
Unfortunately Tonbridge, who were loaded with first teamers, were to strong for us and knocked the total off easily and only five wickets down.
It was a tough but enjoyable day. Special note to Sen who found good rhythm with his bowling and found good pace on a slow deck. Also, impressive performances in the field from Chris Mac, Sen, Woodsy and Richard Skye on a rapid outfield.
Player of the Match- Richard Skye
Fine of the day- Kev
